CFO: Verizon planning nationwide fixed LTE launch

Verizon plans to launch fixed broadband LTE service before the end of the year, said Verizon Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo on the company’s earnings call last week. 2011 LTE goal reached, Verizon continues expansion

Verizon Wireless revealed in its earnings call on Friday (CP: Verizon’s mobile data growth still driven by Android, 3G) that it had already succeeded in completing it planned 2011 footprint, but VZW isn’t resting on its laurels for the remaining two months of the year. Gartner: Context-aware technologies next step beyond local, social

williamclarkAs telcos aim for personalization, location plus customer context may yield the approach they are looking for the answer. But factor in regulation and privacy concerns and it could mean long delays as well.

Gartner predicts that context aware technologies will impact $96 billion of worldwide consumer spending by 2015. Defining context aware technologies, William Clark, research VP at the company, said that context-aware computing is how new experiences are constructed that mix information from mobile, social, digital and physical world sources. Technology shifts, including the emergence of model-driven approaches to security detection and prevention, as well as the convergence and normalization of advertising across TV, game, web and mobile environments will drive context-aware computing – which could disrupt many existing markets. PayPal’s straightforward payment approach shines, more complex NFC fade

UntitledEvery day, it seems, PayPal increases its estimates of transactions that it will process in 2011. Meanwhile, not a day goes past when the prospects for NFC seem dimmer.

For the past two quarters, PayPal has increased its predictions about how much money will pass through its digital doors in 2011. In April, it reported increased transaction values from $6 million to $10 million a day. This week, it upped its predictions for mobile transactions for the year by $500 million.
