Sprint Apple iPhone 4S unlocked. And why not?

Sprint’s iPhone 4S won’t be as fast as AT&T’s new Apple (Unfiltered: Sprint confirms unlimited plans for its new iPhone(s)), but it’s not without its perks.

“Sprint plans to sell the iPhone 4S with its micro-SIM slot unlocked,” MacWorld has reported, adding that Verizon, per standard policy, will unlock its 4S after 60 days, for any nice, bill-paying customers who ask.

While a bragging point of the iPhone 4S is that it’s a world phone, the benefit here, of course, is that instead of paying international roaming rates, during visits to far-flung locales, one can ideally pick up a local micro SIM for a better rate.

While the latter skimps Sprint out a few dollars, its iPhone is so long coming, and its need to move as many of the handsets as possible is so great (CP: Sprint Apple iPhone 4S a necessary evil), throwing in as many perks as it can muster seems a good idea.

Besides, Apple already has plans to offer some unlocked, contract-free phones (Unfiltered: iPhone 4S available for pre-order, unlocked models coming in November) later this year.
