You never know where or when FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski is going to drop another hint about what will be in the National Broadband Plan, due in less than two weeks.
In a speech today to kick off an event at the D.C. Department of Small and Local Business Development about how broadband can help small businesses, Genachowski said the National Broadband Plan will include recommendations aimed at fostering broadband competition.
Although he did not provide details, Genachowski said the National Broadband Plan will “recommend competitive rules to make sure small businesses benefit from robust competition.”
Small businesspeople have told the FCC in recent months that they would like to see more competition in broadband, the chairman said. “Competitive providers can bridge the gap,” said Genachowski.
Fostering innovation and competition, he said, ultimately should lower the cost of broadband investment.
