Cisco and US Signal announced the successful completion of the first 100 Gigabit (100G) coherent dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) trial — based on the Cisco ONS 15454 Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP) system.
The 100G coherent trial was performed over an in-service 10G-engineered network between Chicago, Ill. and Kalamazoo, Mich. The successful trial confirmed that US Signal will deploy in-service, 100G coherent technology on networks originally designed for 10G transmission without any re-engineering, thereby extending the value and return on investment of the company’s existing fiber network.
This is analogous to a rail operator being able to deploy high-speed services merely by purchasing faster rail cars and without the need to upgrade the track infrastructure as is typically required. With customers’ increasing demand for intuitive, faster and more efficient networks to help them deliver next-generation services, such as data center virtualization, Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IAAS) and Business Process Management (BPM), more…

Cortado expands the range of solutions offered by the Cloud Printing Alliance to bring unlimited printing to secure corporate laptops
Denver, November 17, 2011 - Cortado, the leading innovator of the business class of cloud desktop services, announces today Cortado Instant Printer – a new software product that increases the security of laptops by making printer driver installation on the devices unnecessary. With Cortado Instant Printer, companies can completely prevent software and drivers from being installed by locking the laptop without requiring users to sacrifice printing performance.
Local installation of software (i.e. new printer drivers) by end users is an increasing security issue, which not only threatens to expose any sensitive personal information the user might have on their computer, but also threatens exposing sensitive corporate information. According to a Cisco commissioned international study by the U.S. market research institute, InsightExpress, half of all data loss in enterprises more…
Today Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) is introducing a new solution, called CloudBand, which brings together the computing power and flexibility of the cloud with the high performance, reliability and security of communications networks. CloudBand is the foundation for a new class of ‘carrier cloud’ services that will enable communications service providers to bring the benefits of the cloud to their own networks and business operations, and put them in an ideal position to offer a new range of high-performance cloud services to enterprises and consumers.
The public cloud model has transformed how we access applications and use computing power and data storage. Applications and data can now be accessed on-demand from data centers through the Internet. Some services, however, are dependent on levels of quality and performance that the public cloud is not able to provide.
