Aylus Networks Launches Video Calling Offering at GSMA Mobile World Congress Show

Aylus Networks™, the leading enabler of rich communication services utilizing video, announced at the Mobile World Congress Show Aylus Video Calling offering, which enables mobile operators and OTT service providers to offer video calling as an extension of voice calls. Today, more and more smartphones and other mobile devices come with front-facing cameras designed to enable video chatting or calling. However, video calling services are still limited to calls between particular devices and communities of interest on certain networks and they offer no quality of service or user experience guarantees, issues that are limiting video calling uptake. Aylus Video Calling is changing all of that.

“We estimate that within five years 15% of all mobile voice calls will add video to their calls, representing over 150 billion minutes of video calling per year,” said Mark Edwards, CEO of Aylus Networks. “As total revenues for the mobile industry surpass more

DRAGONWAVE’S HORIZON COMPACT+ MEETS THE 4G BACKHAUL CHALLENGE WITH THE HIGHEST CAPACITY PER CHANNEL

Next-generation all-outdoor packet microwave system lowers cost per bit, leads industry in spectral efficiency and allows zero footprint installations

To offset the cost and capacity challenges created by today’s high-bandwidth 3G applications and the accelerating rollout of 4G, mobile operators must find ways to increase overall system capacity. DragonWave Inc.’s (TSX: DWI / NASDAQ: DRWI) introduction of Horizon Compact+ provides operators with a key tool to address lifecycle cost in three critical areas: Spectrum utilization, capacity and location leasing costs.

As the first all-outdoor system to incorporate XPIC (Cross Polarization Interference Cancellation) technology, Horizon Compact+ also becomes the first to take advantage of XPIC’s spectrum-doubling capability. Building on the capacity increases from DragonWave’s previously announced Bandwidth Accelerator technology, this spectrum-doubling capability increases the data bandwidth of Horizon Compact+ to as high as 2 Gbps.

Cost containment is another Horizon Compact+ benefit. “Leasing costs are a more

CONVERGED PACKET MICROWAVE SYSTEM EASES EVOLUTION TO 4G BY MERGING LEGACY AND IP TRAFFIC

DragonWave Horizon Harmony enables a seamless transition from TDM, ATM and Frame Relay traffic to a converged packet network

The impact of smartphones, Internet appliances and 4G are combining to speed up the evolution away from legacy backhaul solutions and toward high capacity packet microwave systems. With its Horizon® Harmony platform, DragonWave Inc. (TSX: DWI; NASDAQ: DRWI) is delivering a converged, software upgradable system that will transform what could have been an expensive, problem-prone transition to all-Ethernet transport into a competitive advantage for mobile operators.

DragonWave, a leading global supplier of packet microwave radio systems for mobile and access networks, has integrated pseudowire and packet microwave technologies together into a single packet-based, high-capacity system. Horizon Harmony completely bypasses the shortcomings of “hybrid” systems that have been optimized for legacy traffic and services and therefore do not offer a clear evolutionary path to a unified flat-IP network.

PIM Under Attack: CommScope’s Andrew Solutions Launches Five-Prong Campaign to Help Improve Mobile Networks

HICKORY, NC–Passive intermodulation (PIM) continues to be one of the top causes of quality and performance issues faced by wireless operators in their networks. In 2011, CommScope’s Andrew Solutions is targeting PIM in an all-out assault.

PIM is the result of two or more wireless signals mixing together to create additional, undesired frequencies that cause interference or degrade transmission of desired signals in wireless networks. Recognizing that conquering PIM requires a broad and comprehensive approach, Andrew Solutions, the CommScope, Inc. division that is a global leader in wireless communication systems and products, has introduced a new five-level PIM program–“PIM Happens, Just Not on Our Watch”–for the wireless industry.

“RF engineers are aware of PIM, but may not fully appreciate the degree of damage it causes to a wireless network, lumping PIM together with other performance metrics,” said Stan Catey, senior vice president and general manager, Cable more
