IPC Selects Overture Networks to Extend Managed Ethernet Services to Financial Trading Companies

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, AUGUST 19, 2008 - Overture Networks, a leading supplier of converged packet access solutions for Carrier Ethernet, today announced that IPC Systems, Inc. is using Overture’s ISG product family as part of IPC’s recently introduced Ethernet Connection Service (ECS) for financial trading firms. IPC is a leading provider of indispensable communications solutions to financial services firms and global enterprises, and recently introduced low-latency Ethernet private lines through ECS to improve market access and the competitiveness of electronic trading firms.
To optimize ECS, IPC sought to bring together best-of-breed solutions, but needed to ensure consistent and highly available service globally and across any type of infrastructure, whether it be Ethernet-over-Fiber or Ethernet-over-SONET/SDH. IPC selected Overture Networks based on the flexibility and manageability of the ISG products, which allow IPC to support a wide range of customer environments.
Designed to be simple and fast-to-provision, IPC’s highly flexible and scalable ECS gives trading firms a wide range of secure, dedicated Ethernet private lines for low-latency electronic trading. ECS makes the firms more productive and simplifies customer management of connections to important trading partners and markets. Dedicated Ethernet private lines are quickly provisioned between On-Net customers. The service’s simplicity means trading firms do not have to worry about the complex networking and security problems associated with alternative carrier data services.
ECS gives IT organizations more flexibility, especially given the demand traders have for low-latency connectivity. In addition to point-to-point and point-to-multi-point connectivity options, IPC ECS offers trading firms and IT/telephony departments a 24/7 managed solution to connect with exchanges, electronic communications networks (ECNs) and the world’s largest On-Net community of approximately 3,000 financial institutions.
“Overture Networks stood out for a number of reasons,” explained Steve Kammerer, IPC Network Services’ vice president of service development. “Its Tier-1 carrier-grade products easily met our technology requirements. The ISG family not only boasts low power consumption but is easy-to-install and monitor. The ISGs are also scalable enough to use as edge aggregation and customer premises equipment. Perhaps most important was Overture’s Ethernet expertise and its team’s ability and willingness to help us build a new service with Ethernet as a core technology.”
“IPC is leveraging Ethernet to offer an innovative set of services for financial traders,” said Chip Redden, Overture Networks’ vice president of marketing and product management. “Overture is committed to providing the solutions and services that companies like IPC can rely on to cost-effectively and competitively meet their customers’ communications needs today and in the future.”
