Fastweb Deploying Next-Generation Network Platform

Fastweb, a leading Italian telecoms provider, announced that it has selected the Cisco Aggregation Services Router 9000 Series as the foundation of the company’s next-generation edge network.

Fastweb will deploy the Cisco ASR 9000 across its network, enabling delivery of enhanced video, data, voice and cloud services throughout its converged network.

This investment highlights Fastweb’s commitment to developing its Internet Protocol (IP) network to meet rising consumer and business bandwidth requirements and providing the technological platform required for delivery of next-generation Internet services — such as high definition video conferencing.

Deployment of the ASR 9000 begins this month and will include 32 ASR 9000 systems initially in Fastweb’s 10 Gigabit Ethernet network.

“We are seeing demand from our customers for higher connectivity speeds, as both businesses and consumers look to take advantage of the next generation of video and internet services,” said Guido Roda, more

Cox Building IP-NGN Foundation for Advanced Services

Cisco announced that Cox Communications will deploy the Cisco ASR 9000 as the foundation of its nationwide IP-NGN — which will play a role in enabling advanced new video, online entertainment and communication services to Cox’s nationwide customer base.

Cox manages and maintains consumer voice, video and data residential services for its customers on a fully converged, next-generation IP network, which requires advanced IP traffic aggregation capabilities and scale. The Cisco ASR 9000 has the unique ability to support these requirements while providing operators with a network foundation to scale video services in a cost-effective manner.

Cisco predicts that the number of network-connected devices will be more than 15 billion, twice the world’s population, by 2015. In the fifth annual Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) Forecast (2010-2015) released last week, the company also said the total amount of global Internet traffic will quadruple by 2015 and more

NTT Plala to Deploy Enhanced Security Service

Cisco announced that NTT Plala has deployed the Cisco Aggregation Services Router 9000 Series for its Internet access service. This will enable NTT Plala to build a secure wideband Internet service infrastructure while reducing energy consumption.

Today, it is imperative for Internet service providers to respond to the growth in Internet traffic brought about by the spread of video-sharing sites and on-demand video viewing services — as well as the expanding business use of cloud-based applications.

Service providers also need to address the issue of Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) address exhaustion, prepare their networks to meet IPv6 requirements, and offering attractive services to acquire new subscriptions.

Moreover, the environment surrounding Internet service providers is drastically changing, as they need to respond to concerns about energy supply. Under such circumstances, NTT Plala has employed the Cisco ASR 9000 Series to enhance the efficiency of its network more

RAD Joins Symmetricom SyncWorld Ecosystem for Mobile Backhaul Synchronization over Packet Microwave Networks

MAHWAH, New Jersey, May 19, 2011 – RAD Data Communications has joined the Symmetricom SyncWorld Ecosystem Program, which was formed to provide tested solutions for mobile backhaul synchronization over packet microwave networks.

Since Packet Switched Networks (PSNs) do not include inherent synchronization mechanisms, they require complementary clock transfer solutions. This is particularly relevant to mobile backhaul and Triple Play services, which require exact synchronization.
In response to that challenge, Symmetricom developed a portfolio of Grandmaster Clock solutions. The Grandmaster clock supports IEEE 1588-2008, or Precision Time Protocol (PTP) Version 2, ensuring the highest possible level of synchronization over a PSN. Deployed at mobile base stations, RAD’s Mobile Demarcation Devices (MDDs), which support 1588-2008 as well as Synchronous Ethernet, lock onto the Grandmaster Clock, functioning as “slaves” to synchronize all elements within the system.

“RAD is enthusiastic about joining Symmetricom’s SyncWorld Ecosystem Program,” said Ronen more
