ADVA OPTICAL NETWORKING INTRODUCES AGILE CORE EXPRESS SOLUTION

New 100Gbit/s-Optimized Coherent Express Layer Provides Unprecedented Capacity, Reach and Flexibility with End-to-End Service Management

At CeBIT, ADVA Optical Networking, announced the addition of a coherent express layer to its flagship FSP 3000 platform. The new technology has been optimized for 100Gbit/s transmission speed and enables service providers to use optical network resources flexibly and on-demand. Close interworking with the IP/MPLS layer allows a massive increase in network scalability and efficiency. The feature set represents a new generation of agile optical core networks and includes the following three critical elements:

• Optical layer fully optimized for 100Gbit/s coherent transmission technology – Besides the obvious benefit of increasing the capacity per wavelength, the true power of the technology lies in the extra link budget gained with coherent detection. To benefit from the extra link budget, the 100Gbit/s capabilities are complemented by cost-effective, compact and performance-optimized amplification schemes, more

ADVA OPTICAL NETWORKING SUCCESSFULLY TRIALS LOW-LATENCY 100G TRANSMISSION

100Gbit/s Metro/Enterprise Solution Shows Error-Free Operation
over Tier-One European Carrier Network

ADVA Optical Networking announces the successful trial of a direct-detection 100Gbit/s solution in the metro network of a tier-one European carrier. The solution ran error-free under real-life conditions with unfavorable fiber characteristics. The trial demonstrated the potential of non-coherent technologies for low-latency applications in metro and enterprise networks.

“ADVA Optical Networking has a long history of providing innovative and pragmatic solutions that deliver top performance, optimized for specific applications,” said Christoph Glingener, chief technology officer at ADVA Optical Networking. “There is a market for 100G solutions outside the traditional long-haul space,” he continued. “In the metro and data center connectivity domain, users need low latency, a small footprint, low power consumption and aggressive price points. This trial was excellent proof that we can deliver against these requirements.”

CONVERGED PACKET MICROWAVE SYSTEM EASES EVOLUTION TO 4G BY MERGING LEGACY AND IP TRAFFIC

DragonWave Horizon Harmony enables a seamless transition from TDM, ATM and Frame Relay traffic to a converged packet network

The impact of smartphones, Internet appliances and 4G are combining to speed up the evolution away from legacy backhaul solutions and toward high capacity packet microwave systems. With its Horizon® Harmony platform, DragonWave Inc. (TSX: DWI; NASDAQ: DRWI) is delivering a converged, software upgradable system that will transform what could have been an expensive, problem-prone transition to all-Ethernet transport into a competitive advantage for mobile operators.

DragonWave, a leading global supplier of packet microwave radio systems for mobile and access networks, has integrated pseudowire and packet microwave technologies together into a single packet-based, high-capacity system. Horizon Harmony completely bypasses the shortcomings of “hybrid” systems that have been optimized for legacy traffic and services and therefore do not offer a clear evolutionary path to a unified flat-IP network.

PIM Under Attack: CommScope’s Andrew Solutions Launches Five-Prong Campaign to Help Improve Mobile Networks

HICKORY, NC–Passive intermodulation (PIM) continues to be one of the top causes of quality and performance issues faced by wireless operators in their networks. In 2011, CommScope’s Andrew Solutions is targeting PIM in an all-out assault.

PIM is the result of two or more wireless signals mixing together to create additional, undesired frequencies that cause interference or degrade transmission of desired signals in wireless networks. Recognizing that conquering PIM requires a broad and comprehensive approach, Andrew Solutions, the CommScope, Inc. division that is a global leader in wireless communication systems and products, has introduced a new five-level PIM program–“PIM Happens, Just Not on Our Watch”–for the wireless industry.

“RF engineers are aware of PIM, but may not fully appreciate the degree of damage it causes to a wireless network, lumping PIM together with other performance metrics,” said Stan Catey, senior vice president and general manager, Cable more
