Software upgrade eases network management with more ways to optimize SDV infrastructure

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Oct. 29, 2009BigBand Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: BBND), a leader in digital video networking, today announced an enhancement to the company’s Switched Video Analysis (SVA) solution, offering cable operators further ways to leverage Switched Digital Video (SDV) architectures and BigBand’s recently unveiled video software control plane, Converged Video Exchange (CVEx™). The new SVA enhancement is a software upgrade to the industry’s most widely deployed SDV platform and offers MSOs the ability to optimize SDV assets and HFC spectrum and to maximize programming availability.

For example, service providers are using the SVA software to track success rates for tunein requests on SDV channels, to plan service group and node splits, and to optimize SDV channels line-ups in order to maximize the number of programs that can be carried in the spectrum (oversubscription) without blocking events. more

Zeugma Systems, a supplier of open telecommunications solutions for broadband service providers (BSPs), today released a software development kit (SDK) for its flagship product, the Zeugma Services Node (ZSN). The SDK leverages the scalable and fully federated compute grid which is inherent to the ZSN, allowing service providers and third parties to quickly and easily develop custom applications capable of running directly within the ZSN. This capability provides visibility and control over network resources heretofore not possible in a carrier-grade broadband aggregation, subscriber management, and edge routing device.
The Zeugma SDK provides APIs that give applications direct access to the subscriber management, routing, traffic management, and compute capabilities within the ZSN. Using these APIs, applications can push rules down into the data plane, instructing deep session inspection (DSI) technology to copy or intercept certain traffic flows up to the application for analysis and processing. Applications are also able more
