Synchronica Launches SimpleMail Consumer Push Email Solution for Low-End Phones

Royal Tunbridge Wells, October 28, 2008. - Synchronica plc, the international provider of mobile email and synchronization solutions, today announced Synchronica SimpleMail, a new consumer push email (CPE) solution that brings mobile email to almost 100 percent of handsets in use today. Based on technology from the recent acquisition of former competitor AxisMobile and available immediately, Synchronica SimpleMail extends the addressable market for push email to even the most basic handsets, making it an ideal service for mobile operators in emerging markets.

Synchronica has already signed license agreements for the new technology with two mobile operators in emerging markets and has received an expansion order from a mobile operator in Russia / CIS for additional licenses.

Synchronica SimpleMail includes email-to-SMS and email-to-MMS gateways and a clientless solution for WAP / XHTML browser access. It also features the patented Optimizer transcoding gateway which reduces the size of pictures and allows a large variety of attachments, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents to be displayed on feature phones that would otherwise be unable to support this functionality. Users can register for the service from their mobile handset rather than having to register via a PC - a key benefit in emerging markets where broadband connectivity is rare.

Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica, comments: “There are more than 3.5 billion mobile users and more than two billion mailboxes in use worldwide. Our mission is to bring mobile email to the mass market on the widest range of devices. Synchronica SimpleMail which is based on technology from our recent acquisition of AxisMobile extends our reach from smartphones and feature phones right down to even the most basic of handsets. This is a key proposition for emerging markets and has already brought us two new mobile operator customers, one in Africa and one in India.”

Forecasts point to emerging markets as a breakthrough area for mass market mobile email. Informa predicts that there will be 4.81 billion mobile phone subscribers by 2012, with the next billion subscribers coming predominantly from emerging markets where PC and fixed-line penetration is low.

Key features of Synchronica SimpleMail include:

* Email-to-SMS and Email-to-MMS gateways

* Clientless solution for WAP / XHTML browser access

* Email transcoding and compression engine reduces network traffic and enables standard mobile phones to display a variety of attachments

* Support for DOC, ZIP, PDF, MPEG, MP3, and HTML attachments

* Supports Gmail, Yahoo Mail, MSN Hotmail Plus, and any POP3 or IMAP4 mailbox

* Realtime device auto-detection

* Multi-lingual support (English, Cyrillic, Chinese, Arabic, Kanji)

* Support for multiple email accounts on one device

Minimizing Downtime with Enhance Clustering

Enhance Technology Introduces UltraStor RS Series Clustering

For Immediate Release

Santa Fe Springs, CA – October 16, 2008 – Enhance Technology, Inc., the leader and pioneer in the design and implementation of hybrid I/O technology in storage is proud to announce its UltraStor RS series full compatibility with Clustering.  After extensive testing from the knowledgeable team of Enhance Technology, the UltraStor RS series is guaranteed to be fully operable with your cluster.  Simply connect any of the UltraStor series to your existing cluster, and you will have high capacity storage with your mission critical applications.

About Clustering

A computer cluster is a group of two or more computers linked together so that they are practically working as one computer.  This allows you to take advantage of High Availability Clusters (Failover Clusters) which prevents losing productivity should a computer ever go down.  Imagine if you have an email server that goes down, you would be unable to use email until the IT team brings the server back up.  Precious time and resources are lost waiting to use email and this is incredibly detrimental for time sensitive material.  With a cluster of two servers, should one go down, you will still be able to use Email while the IT team brings the server back up thereby reducing down time.

The UltraStor with Clustering

Enhance Technology’s UltraStor series works seamlessly with clustering and makes high capacity storage available so two or more computers can share.  To take advantage of this setup both computers must be identical in every aspect.  The UltraStor device must be connected to both computers and then setup the amount of storage each computer will be allotted.

The UltraStor series uses RAID technology and comes in a variety of configurations that can use up to 8x or 16x HDDs to suit your needs.  With RAID technology, you have the same peace of mind as with a cluster application.  Should a HDD fail, your data will be safe.  Full compatibility and reliability are what make the UltraStor series the choice for your high capacity storage needs.

About Enhance Technology, Inc.

Founded in 1997, Enhance Technology designs and manufactures high performance storage systems for digital content creation, medical imaging, security surveillance, post production, data archive and IT market places. Headquartered in Santa Fe Springs, California with an Asian branch in Taipei, Taiwan, Enhance Technology has become the world leader in designing and developing hybrid I/O storage solutions. Acme Packet Plays Key Role in Nearly 100 IMS Projects

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Media Contact:                                               Investor Relations:Andrea Joest Lovas                                           Brian NorrisConnect2 Communications                                 Acme Packet+1.908.857.2022                                                +1.781.328.4790andrea@connect2comm.com                              bnorris@acmepacket.com Acme Packet Plays Key Role in Nearly 100 IMS Projects Market-leading SBC vendor working with
all major IMS core infrastructure vendors around the world

BURLINGTON, MA, OCTOBER 16, 2008 — Acme Packet® (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session border control solutions, today provided an update on its IMS projects, which now total nearly 100 around the world. The update is the result of a recently completed survey and analysis conducted by Acme Packet.

Highlights of the analysis reveal the following:

  • European deployments lead the way: Acme Packet is involved in IMS projects in every economic region of the world. European service providers account for 50% of Acme Packet’s IMS projects, followed by 22% in Asia-Pacific, 15% in Central & South America and 13% in North America. The large concentration of projects in Europe reflects both the number of unique tier-one service providers in that region and their overall receptivity to the European-focused 3GPP and ETSI standards groups defining IMS.
  • Interoperability with all major IMS vendors proven: Acme Packet SBCs are deployed with IMS core infrastructure (e.g., S/I-CSCF, HSS, application servers, etc.) provided by eight different major communications equipment vendors. Given the early and evolving state of implementing IMS standards, this demonstrates Acme Packet’s flexibility should IMS elements be changed or additional endpoints be supported.
  • Wireline service delivery commands attention: Nearly two-thirds of Acme Packet’s IMS projects (65%) deliver services only to wireline access networks. Both wireline and wireless networks are supported by 26% of the projects and wireless-only networks by 9%. These findings support our observation that wireline access networks are moving more rapidly to IP for voice service delivery than wireless access networks. All IP 4G networks such as mobile WiMAX and LTE present future new opportunities for IMS.
  • Access border is the SBC focus: Given the initial focus by service providers on delivering services to their own subscribers, SBCs are initially being used to protect and control the access border in 80% of Acme Packet’s IMS projects. In another 13% of the projects, SBCs are being used at both the access and interconnect borders, and in the remaining 7% of projects at the interconnect border only. Interconnecting these networks to one another and non-IMS VoIP networks is an additional future opportunity.
  • Integrated SBC architecture prevails: Acme Packet’s integrated SBCs, which control both SIP signaling and media, have been selected, on average, for nine out of ten projects. The other projects are using an Acme Packet’s decomposed SBC solution – a border gateway controlling just media under the direction of another vendor’s SIP signaling element. In contrast with the decomposed SBC architecture, the integrated SBC provides superior border control functionality and performance, and is field-proven in hundreds of Acme Packet customer networks and in networks with hundreds of border points. The integrated SBC solution simplifies the network by eliminating the need for the H.248 control protocol between elements and greatly eases troubleshooting and support by consolidating border control in one system from a single vendor.

In July 2008, ABI Research released its IMS Vendor Matrix and placed Acme Packet eighth among the top ten IMS suppliers based on various criteria, including announced orders or trials, the number of tier-one operators that are customers, the number of elements provided and the number of applications supported.

In addition, Current Analysis recently ranked Acme Packet’s Net-Net 4000 family first among its peers on several categories, including IMS and protocol support and customer traction.

“Acme Packet is an industry leader in the standalone SBC market in multiple categories and a trendsetter in terms of supporting emerging architectures, protocols, interfaces and deployment scenarios,” said Joe McGarvey, principal analyst for Current Analysis. “Acme Packet’s support of IMS standards and broad range of early IMS customers puts the company in a strong position among competitive suppliers.”

“While IMS architectural blueprints don’t explicitly specify the need for a ‘session border controller’ by that name, our survey results show that our customers believe otherwise,” said Seamus Hourihan, vice president of marketing and product management for Acme Packet. “The session border controller is the right product to perform all of the IMS network access and interconnect edge functions and satisfy several critical requirements missing from IMS in the areas of security, overload control, enterprise service delivery, and overall resiliency and scalability.”

Information about the role of Acme Packet’s session border controllers in IMS architectures, including 3GPP, ETSI TISPAN, Multiservice Switching Forum and PacketCable, is available on Acme Packet’s website. About Acme Packet

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – October 7, 2008 – Fanfare, delivering innovative testing solutions to network equipment manufacturers (NEMs), service providers (SPs), and enterprises today announced the launch of the Fanfare Community, an online meeting place for users to share best practices and discuss challenges related to device and network testing. It is the first online community of its kind serving testers and developers in the communications industry.

Representatives from industry leading NEMs, SPs, enterprises, and other technology companies are actively participating on the site. The Fanfare Community offers users a variety of resources, including blogs, videos, discussion forums and test assets, which are being posted to encourage collaboration and reduce testing time for participants. Users can also share their experiences with other testers, providing another means of support and service for Fanfare products.

“The Fanfare Community provides a free exchange of information about testing devices and applications that run across them,” said Olga Yashkova, Industry Analyst, Frost & Sullivan. “Users not only provide answers to problems, but they also suggest different approaches for solving them. This information sharing extends beyond the individual tester or developer; many in this community are working together to solve quality issues between service providers and their suppliers.”
“In the few weeks since we’ve launched the Fanfare Community, we’ve had over 100 users join and participate actively in discussions, with more visitors to the site every day,” said David Gehringer, vice president of marketing for Fanfare. “This is significant because until now, this group of testers and developers has not had the resources or the camaraderie that those in the IT testing space have enjoyed for years. This segment of the testing population is growing quickly, and we are pleased to provide a forum for them to meet and collaborate on issues that affect their work on a daily basis.”

The Fanfare Community can be accessed at http://www.fanfaresoftware.com/community/.

Transition Networks Unveils New Power-over-Ethernet Media Converter

sgpoe1040-100_l.jpgRounds Out Gigabit Ethernet PoE Media Converter Portfolio

Las Vegas, NV — September 29, 2008 – BICSI Fall Conference — Transition Networks Inc., the switching and conversion technology expert, a wholly owned subsidiary of Communications Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: JCS), today announced the introduction of a new Gigabit Ethernet Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) media converter. This product expands Transition Networks’ portfolio of PoE copper-to-fiber media converters enabling customers to power wireless access points, voice over IP phones and IP security and surveillance cameras.

These new converters are capable of handling speeds up to Gigabit Ethernet and can be located more than 100 meters from the main PoE Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) without the expensive replication of the PSE. The new devices are fully compliant IEEE 802.3af media converters providing 10/100/1000Base-T to 100/1000Base-X conversion and can be powered by an AC outlet anywhere in the world.

“In addition to helping overcome the challenge of linking remote IP cameras and Wi-Fi access points located beyond the 100 meter distance limitation of PoE over UTP cabling, our PoE copper-to-fiber media converters also help to reduce capital expenditures and installation costs by providing the benefits of PoE at the remote sites,” said Patrick Schaber, Director of Marketing at Transition Networks. “As we expand our PoE product portfolio to accommodate higher bandwidth devices and customer applications, the addition of the new gigabit Ethernet device offers customers the utmost in flexibility for integrating fiber into their PoE networks.”

Product Features
Transition’s AC powered PoE media converters utilize an external AC power supply allowing for a reduced form factor when compared to devices with an internal power supply. These converters combine the data received over a fiber optic link with up to 15.4 watts of power and insert the combination on either the “A” or “B” pairs of unshielded twisted pair cabling to interface with Data Terminal Equipment (DTE) Power Devices (PD). The media converters also include PD signature sensing and power monitoring features compliant with the IEEE 802.3af standard, such as Over-Current Protection, Under-Current Detection and Fault Protection Input. In addition, these products include Transition’s premium selectable features such as Automatic Link Restoration, Auto-Negotiation, Autocross, Link Pass Through, Far End Fault and Pause.

Transition also integrated the following innovative and industry-unique features into these new gigabit Ethernet media converters:

Power Device Reset - With the PSE/LPT switch enabled, a loss of fiber RX will disable PSE power output on the UTP port for 2 seconds to allow remote device to re-initialize. It will then resume power output to the PD device and will automatically re-establish the UTP communication link once the fiber RX is restored.
Redundant, dual speed SFP ports – The 110 model includes two SFP ports that support both 100Base-FX and 1000Base-X SFPs providing the ability to utilize this converter to support a fast Ethernet link today and simply move to gigabit Ethernet in the future by changing out the SFP. These dual speed ports can also be set via dip-switch to provide a redundant fiber path between a mission critical PD and a PSE or to function as traditional three port switch.

Product Configuration and Availability
Transition’s new gigabit Ethernet PoE media converters are offered in three distinct models:

Product Description
SGPOE10xx-100 10/100/1000Base-T (RJ-45) PoE to 1000Base-X (fixed fiber port) offered in either multimode and single mode SC
