XCONNECT AND ACME PACKET DELIVER NEW

London, UK and Burlington, MA, September 23, 2008 —XConnect, the leader in VoIP Peering, and Acme Packet, Inc. (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session border control solutions, today announced successful testing of new methods that assist in the prevention of Spam over Internet Telephony (SPIT), also known as voice spam.

Unlike email spam, SPIT is still relatively uncommon and was somewhat obscure prior to the recent significant worldwide growth of VoIP communications. Now that VoIP has become more ubiquitous, the disruptive and intrusive nature of unwanted calls, coupled with the difficulty in detecting SPIT, has made this up-and-coming threat hard to ignore. Consequently, industry bodies such as the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) have recently begun placing increased focus on developing approaches to dealing with SPIT.

In one of the proposed approaches, peering federations use upstream SIP elements to tag or mark call attempts with a spam score indicating the likelihood of SPIT. Session border controllers (SBCs) are then configured at the borders between originating and terminating networks to interpret these scores and act accordingly. For example, a low or zero-value score will result in the SBC forwarding the call to the intended destination, while a higher score may result in the call being rerouted to a secure destination or rejected altogether by the SBC. Managed federations are good candidates for this approach and many of XConnect’s customers, across federations, have demanded significant SPIT detection and protection measures as prerequisites to enabling secure multi-lateral interconnections.   XConnect and Acme Packet are working together to implement this new methodology for the first time.

“Until now, the few industry attempts to implement SPIT prevention have been ineffective, because approaches that mimic email spam solutions do not account for the realities and architectures of voice,” said Eli Katz, CEO of XConnect. “XConnect’s approach is the first to create an industry-standards-based infrastructure to allow calls and multimedia IP sessions to be identified and tagged with advanced SPIT threat information. This enables communication service providers to deal with this potential threat in an intelligent manner, on a call-by-call basis.”

“As more and more VoIP networks become interconnected, SPIT has the potential to create a plague that’s even worse than email spam,” stated Seamus Hourihan, vice president of marketing and product management at Acme Packet. “Acme Packet, leveraging its Net-SAFE (Session-Aware Filtering and Enforcement) security framework, is committed to working in tandem with VoIP peering federation providers, such as XConnect, who are actively engaged in preventing SPIT as well as other undesirable network activity.”

“SPIT may not be a household word yet, but service providers understand the potential for detracting from the VoIP experience,” said Jon Arnold of J. Arnold & Associates. “This spam score will provide another valuable metric to determine the quality of VoIP traffic that is being peered between service providers.”

Links to the IETF drafts describing the SPIT prevention approach mentioned above, as well as other relevant material, can be accessed via XConnect’s online media center (http://www.xconnect.net/voip_download.htm).

Acme Packet Announces Debut of Net-Net 4500 Session Border Controller

BURLINGTON, MA, SEPTEMBER 16, 2008 — Acme Packet® (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session border control solutions, today announced the introduction of its Net-Net 4500, a new addition to the Net-Net 4000 series that increases performance and capacity by 100% or more in session border controller (SBC), multiservice security gateway (MSG) and session routing proxy (SRP) product configurations. Positioned between the Net-Net 4250 and Net-Net 9200 in terms of price, performance and capacity, the Net-Net 4500 satisfies service provider, large enterprise and contact center requirements at both network access and interconnect border points.

As the number of subscribers utilizing IP-based interactive communications continues to grow on a worldwide basis, service providers are making investments in network expansion. Similarly, enterprises who have already embraced voice over IP (VoIP) are expanding session capacity in their networks in order to reap the business benefits offered by presence-enabled unified communications (UC). Emerging wireless services leveraging femtocell or Wi-Fi access points to enable fixed-mobile substitution (FMS) and fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) will require security gateway platforms with high-IPsec tunnel capacity. Industry experts have similar perspectives on these trends: in a recent survey conducted by Infonetics Research, session capacity and performance were identified by service providers as the top two SBC requirements. Infonetics cited “unabated VoIP subscriber growth” as the driving factor behind this survey’s results.

“Acme Packet constantly strives to anticipate the ever-changing demands of new services and applications, so our customers can evolve their networks to meet those demands,” said Patrick MeLampy, CTO of Acme Packet. “The positive customer feedback we’ve received from beta and early customer deployments of the Net-Net 4500 assures us that our vision is aligned with that of our customers.”

Net-Net 4500 raises the bar for performance and capacity
The Net-Net 4500 provides the extra measure of performance and capacity needed to help Acme Packet customers support an ever-increasing number of users and volume of sessions. Relative to the Net-Net 4250, the Net-Net 4500 platform offers enhanced levels of performance and capacity that benefit all Acme Packet product categories:

In SBC configurations, the Net-Net 4500 processes up to 160% more messages per second (MPS) for SIP, H.323, SIP-H.323 interworking and MGCP, optimizing the number of calls per second (CPS) that the network can accommodate. With a 100% increase in media capacity to 64,000 sessions, the Net-Net 4500 eases the transition to next-generation services and applications, such as interactive video, that generate more media flows per session.

As an SRP, the Net-Net 4500 supports 2 million local routing rules, 100% more than the Net-Net 4250. This expansion can reduce the number of routing elements required in many networks, reducing overall complexity and cost.

·       When operating as an MSG, the Net-Net 4500 supports 512,000 IPsec tunnels for backhauling SIP or GSM traffic over untrusted networks from femtocells or dual-mode endpoints. This is 300% more than the Net-Net 4250, greatly reducing the cost per tunnel.

The Net-Net 4500 also delivers enhanced security capabilities in SBC or MSG configurations with the ability to support up to 300% more dynamic access control list (ACL) entries. Dynamic access control protects both the Net-Net 4500 and core service infrastructure from attacks and overloads.

New hardware evolves industry’s leading carrier-class border control platform
The Net-Net 4500 inherits many of the platform characteristics that made the Net-Net 4250 the industry’s leading SBC platform. Like all other Acme Packet platforms, the Net-Net 4500 operates on Acme Packet’s Net-Net OS, which delivers the industry’s richest set of functions and features for controlling traffic across and between IP network borders, including carrier-class high availability for non-stop service delivery. The increased performance and larger capacities of the Net-Net 4500 are made possible by a series of system-level enhancements, including:

more powerful host processor

more memory

higher capacity content addressable memory (CAM)

higher speed secure services module (SSM) for IPsec and TLS

Network interface unit (NIU) modules offering a variety of copper and fiber interfaces at speeds up to 1000 Mbps, redundant load-sharing 300 watt power supplies, and the easy-to-read blue LCD display are all retained on the Net-Net 4500.

Additionally, the Net-Net 4500 utilizes a new power supply subsystem that consumes less power, offering lower operating expenditures (OpEx) and a more eco-friendly footprint, as well as other platform enhancements designed to simplify and enhance installation and maintenance.

FUSIONONE PARTNERS WITH FIVE NEW CONTENT PROVIDERS

SAN JOSE, Calif. – September 10, 2008 – FusionOne, the leading provider of mobile phone backup services, today announced partnerships with five new mobile content providers:

• Sonic Boom, a leading developer and publisher of community-based, personalized games and applications for mobile and web platforms
• Bonfire Media, an award-winning provider of popular, easy-to-use wireless applications such as eBay Wireless and WikiMobile
• GoTV Networks, the first and largest mobile media network that produces content and develops technology for mobile and broadband platforms
• MobiTV, the market maker and leader in content delivery solutions for the mobile and broadband industry
• Networks In Motion, an award-winning wireless navigation and local search company, with products on most major wireless carriers

Content from these companies will now work with FusionOne’s MightyBackup Content service, ensuring the seamless migration of subscribers’ licensed content when switching from one mobile device to another.

“We love this service as it gives our carrier partners and end-consumers the best possible continuity across handset migrations as better phones come out, all while keeping the entertainment that customers have searched and paid for intact,” said David Danon, CEO of Sonic Boom.

MightyBackup Content, previously known as MightyBackup Premium, is the first commercial solution that addresses the complex challenges associated with migrating licensed content from one mobile phone to another. Content providers can now preserve and extend existing relationships with their subscriber customers independent of a subscriber’s mobile device. Furthermore, subscribers will no longer be inconvenienced by having to remember, repurchase and re-download applications from their previous phone. FusionOne is the only company in the mobile content backup space that offers this solution.

“Our partnership with FusionOne is in line with our mission to help subscribers make the most out of their mobile experience” said Alex Poon, CEO of Bonfire Media. “We are pleased to be a part of this important service to our customers, who can now be assured that their Bonfire content will be ready and waiting for them on their new mobile device.”

“We are very pleased to be partnering with FusionOne,” said Thomas Ellsworth, CEO of GoTV Networks. “GoTV’s customers will benefit from the ease of changing mobile devices without losing the applications. FusionOne creates the perfect bridge between the customer and the technological evolution of devices with our original programming.”

Today FusionOne also announced the FusionOne Content Developers Network, which certifies that licensed content from member companies, consisting of third-party content developers and providers, is compatible with FusionOne’s MightyBackup Content solution.

“We are pleased to welcome these five companies into our newly formalized partner program,” said Mohan Sadashiva, senior vice president of marketing for FusionOne. “Interest in partnering with FusionOne has grown immensely over the past year, as more and more companies realize the inherent business benefits involved with the ability for their users to transfer their licensed content to new handsets. Together we are blazing a trail for what we are confident will become a new industry standard.”

Both announcements were made at the CTIA Wireless I.T. and Entertainment conference, being held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco from September 10-12, 2008. FusionOne is exhibiting in booth 852.

FUSIONONE DEBUTS CONTENT DEVELOPERS NETWORK

SAN JOSE, Calif. – September 10, 2008 – FusionOne, the leading provider of mobile phone backup services, today announced the formation of the FusionOne Content Developers Network. This initiative certifies that licensed content from member companies, consisting of third-party content developers and providers, is compatible with FusionOne’s MightyBackup Content service.

Companies that join the FusionOne Content Developers Network can integrate their content with FusionOne’s MightyBackup Content solution. As a result, content from member companies can be seamlessly migrated from one mobile device to another, enhancing customer loyalty and eliminating the need for subscribers to remember, re-discover, and re-download their applications onto a new mobile device.

“The development of the FusionOne Content Developers Network is in response to the growing demand for mobile content transfer capabilities that enable content providers to preserve and extend existing relationships with their customers,” said Mohan Sadashiva, senior vice president of marketing for FusionOne. “It gives members an edge over their competitors by certifying that their applications can be transferred to a new mobile device. It’s also attractive to carriers, who can offer licensed content transfer services for additional applications, thereby increasing their revenue potential.”

MightyBackup Content, previously known as MightyBackup Premium, manages and transfers licensed content from one mobile phone to another, ensuring the seamless migration of subscribers’ licensed content when switching from one mobile device to another. Available on its own or as part of FusionOne’s Mobile Content Transfer solution, MightyBackup Content is the first commercial solution that addresses the complex licensing challenges associated with migrating licensed content from one mobile phone to another. FusionOne is the only company in the mobile content backup space that offers this solution.

“This program is very exciting for our customers and our developer partners. By transferring licensed content, our customers will be able to continue to use the applications they enjoy as soon as they change devices which means a better customer experience for them and continued revenue for us and our partners,” said Kristi Crum, Director of Data-Products for Alltel Wireless.

To date, FusionOne has signed partnership agreements with 45 content developers and providers. These companies will automatically become members of the FusionOne Content Developers Network.

The network is open to content developers worldwide that provide applications to carriers deploying FusionOne solutions. More information is available at http://developers.fusionone.com.

MightyBackup Content will be launched for the first time with a U.S. carrier in the fall.
